Cybord is dedicated to removing counterfeit and defective components from production lines. Leveraging AI and big data, Cybord's technology identifies counterfeit, defective, and tampered components, including hardware-based cybersecurity threats. Defects are detected during component placement and before reflow, simplifying rework and enhancing product reliability. Integration with manufacturing execution systems ensures that nonconforming materials are quarantined and prevented from being used.

Challenge

Many factories create electronic boards using components sourced from various suppliers. Unfortunately, dishonest vendors sometimes sell used or counterfeit parts as new, leading to damaged or defective components being incorporated into production. This can take teams several months to trace and identify. The challenge was to develop a solution using artificial intelligence and supervised machine learning to quickly detect and prevent the use of counterfeit, damaged, or used components, ensuring the integrity and reliability of the final products.

Solution

Go Wombat’s development team leveraged machine learning to create advanced neural networks for process optimization. These neural networks are trained to recognize components and their manufacturers, as well as detect defects such as soldering issues. With this capability, factories can identify counterfeit or low-quality components before they are used in production. The system scans and analyzes all parts installed on electronic boards and assesses component reels before they enter the production line. This proactive approach ensures only high-quality components are used, enhancing the overall reliability and quality of the manufactured electronic boards.

We developed an AI-powered system to ensure the quality of SMT components from the supply chain to the customer. This product offers traceable information, detailing where each component originated and where it was installed. Initially a Proof of Concept, it has evolved into a comprehensive product, integrating all software elements. Manufacturers can now access a dashboard that provides an overview of all assembled components, assembled boards, and traceability data from multiple production sites and contract manufacturers.

This project significantly improves the manufacturing process and increases production efficiency, benefiting both the manufacturing industry and supply chain management. Beyond inspection, it enables early repair and prevention, and establishes placement traceability by combining material inspection, documentation, and visual imagery. This intelligent tracking system enhances material provenance and recall management.

The system currently processes a few million images per day, offering Cybord clients enhanced product reliability, component-level traceability, and improved cybersecurity.
