🇺🇸Overview
The Moxy Monitor is a wearable device which shows how much oxygen your muscles are using during exercise. This helps athletes, trainers, and coaches understand training intensity, endurance capacity, recovery and performance optimisation. The Moxy Portal App was created to make performance data more accessible for athletes and trainers. Instead of relying on a Windows computer or Garmin device, users can now view live Moxy data directly on their iOS or Android phone or tablet. The app connects with up to 4 Moxy sensors and 1 Bluetooth heart rate sensor at the same time, storing all data securely in the cloud. A built-in web tool makes it easy for athletes to share their sessions with trainers, while trainers can annotate the data and give clear, actionable feedback. The result is a seamless way to monitor, share, and improve performance anytime, anywhere.

Challenge
Moxy Monitor needed a robust solution to deliver real-time muscle oxygen tracking without depending on external platforms like Garmin or Windows software. Their existing system struggled with handling high-frequency sensor data (10Hz), causing performance issues and risking data accuracy. Additionally, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication was inefficient, slowing down synchronisation and affecting the user experience. The local storage solution (SQLite) was too slow for their needs, limiting reliability. They also needed a scalable, secure architecture to support subscriptions, manage user access, and enable seamless collaboration between athletes and trainers.

Solution
Go Wombat delivered a complete, multi-layered solution to make Moxy Monitor faster, more reliable, and ready to scale. We built a React Native mobile app capable of pairing with multiple sensors, processing real-time data at 10Hz, and storing it efficiently with a high-performance local database. Our team optimised Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication by customising the library for smoother device discovery and event handling. On the backend, we designed a secure, serverless AWS infrastructure to support subscriptions, user management, and trainer–athlete collaboration. We also improved overall performance by fixing memory leaks and optimising background data synchronisation for a seamless user experience.

Result
After our improvements, the Moxy Monitor app became significantly faster, more stable, and ready to scale. Switching from SQLite to WatermelonDB enabled smooth handling of high-frequency 10Hz sensor data without delays or crashes, eliminating app freezes and reducing strain on the interface. Fixing memory leaks in the workout engine improved reliability during long training sessions. The new serverless AWS architecture now supports seamless synchronisation, secure authentication, and scalable data storage as the user base grows. These upgrades led to faster data sync, reduced resource consumption, and a consistently responsive user experience even under heavy loads.
